This piece is called Neltiliztli. It was taken in 2017 in Nayarit, Mexico.
The secret to a worthwhile life, according to Aztec philosophy, is Neltiliztli. This translates to ‘the rooted life’. Living a rooted life helps you avoid slipping up and losing your way. This life is grounded in three principles, principles that are just as valid today as they were 500 years ago.
The journey begins by looking within yourself. Only by learning to balance what our heart desires with what our mind believes will our psyche become rooted. Next, we must strive to build a strong body to protect us from the challenges that life will inevitably throw at us. According to the codexes, the Aztecs achieved this by following a regimen of daily exercises and stretches. Lastly, become rooted within your community. The Aztec understood that social obligations connect us and enable communities to thrive. A life following all three principles will harmonize the mind, body, and social purpose. It’s a simple and beautiful philosophy to live by.
The model in this photo is my friend Tekie, who traces his origins to the indigenous Huichol and Chichimeca cultures. As always, we worked together to create this concept. This is one of my most popular Aztec cultural prints and is part of my Aztec Warrior wall art series.

Over the years, many of the Aztec models I work with have become good friends. We often create the concepts together, basing them on Mexican myths and fokloric tales.
I pay each model for their time on the photoshoot as well as a percentage of every sale.

Yes, I shoot with a high-end professional Canon 5D4 camera. My images can be printed much larger if needed with no significant loss of resolution.
I work with an amazing Fine Art Printer in the US. They use a process similar to the classic darkroom method called Chromogenic printing. This is my preferred printing method as it gives the images a richness and depth that suits my style of photography. All my work is printed on premium Fuji Lustre paper, or 100% cotton canvas, and is guaranteed to not fade for over 75 years. Please note that this listing is for the print only, it does not include the frame.
Many of my images are inspired by myths and folkloric stories from Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. From the Mexica myth of Popocatepetl & Iztaccihuatl to the Legend of the Charro Negro.
Over the years, many of the models I work with have become good friends. Each photoshoot is a creative collaboration. I pay each model for their time on the photoshoot and I also pay them a percentage of every print sold.
Yes, but I actually suggest you just purchase the print and frame it locally. Sending a framed print increased the chance of your order being damaged during delivery. I suggest you puerchase the print and get it framed locally.
A limited-edition print is a constrained run edition. This means that an edition limited to 10 copies will end its run after the 10th photo is sold. Limited editions are an investment and are popular with art collectors.
