This Aztec Warrior art piece is called “Tecuani”. It was photographed in Mexico in 2017.
Aztec Warriors believed they were inhabited by the spirit of the jaguar. This spirit, the Tecuani, gave them the strength to face their fears and confront their enemies. The model is my friend Juan, who traces his ancestry to the Huichol and Chichimeca cultures. We shot dozens of frames before we found one where the dust looked just right… Almost as if a jaguar was leaping out of his hands.
This print is part of my Aztec Warrior Art series.

Over the years, many of the Aztec models I work with have become good friends. We often create the concepts together, basing them on Mexican myths and fokloric tales.
I pay each model for their time on the photoshoot as well as a percentage of every sale.

I work with an amazing Fine Art Printer in the US. They use a process similar to the classic darkroom method called Chromogenic printing. This is my preferred printing method as it gives the images a richness and depth that suits my style of photography. All my work is printed on premium Fuji Lustre paper, or 100% cotton canvas, and is guaranteed to not fade for over 75 years. Please note that this listing is for the print only, it does not include the frame.
Many of my images are inspired by myths and folkloric stories from Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. From the Mexica myth of Popocatepetl & Iztaccihuatl to the Legend of the Charro Negro.

Yes, but I actually suggest you just purchase the print and frame it locally. Sending a framed print increased the chance of your order being damaged during delivery. I suggest you puerchase the print and get it framed locally.
A limited-edition print is a constrained run edition. This means that an edition limited to 10 copies will end its run after the 10th photo is sold. Limited editions are an investment and are popular with art collectors.

Even more powerful and vibrant in person. I am a very conscious shopper when it comes to my art and the story behind the Mexican Aztec Warrior with Jaguar was what made the purchase a no-brainer. I appreciate that the model has an indigenous ancestry and that the models are both paid for their time and a percentage of every sale goes to them. That is how you celebrate culture.

Beautiful piece! Beyond words. I can’t wait to share the other pieces once I get them framed. ❤️ Get your piece… work of art. The energy I feel when I gaze into the eyes and fall into the energy that I pick up from this piece… beautiful experience to have one of JP’s pieces in your home. Thank you JP and to all our ancestors who helped make these pieces too. Muchas gracias!

I love artwork that leaves me wondering what is going on, what is the story here? It is not just something you look at quickly and move on. I have always been fascinated with native art. It is nice to add to my collection.

This item was shipped very well and safely so there was no damage. It’s a beautiful piece. It almost looks like a painting but it’s a life photo which is unbelievable. I framed this is a dark green wood frame for my dining room. The seller checked in when this was shipping and the day it was due for delivery. Quick to respond. I would love more art from them. It’s very real feeling and I was over the moon when it arrived!
