This piece is called Charro #4.
This photo was taken in Compostela, a small Mexican town nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains. I love driving into the parched grasslands that lead up to Compostela. It’s still, in a very real sense, Charro country here. As we leave the last big town behind us, the roads narrow and eventually turn to dirt. Then the horses start replacing cars. It’s not just the speed you travel at that slows down here, the pace of life does too. Coming here always feels like a welcome break from reality.
It’s not all tranquil though, we had an unexpected burst of excitement on this photoshoot. We’d been taking photos for about an hour when I decided to move us further into a field of tall grasses. I was, as usual, totally swept up in the moment. Entirely focused on my viewfinder. At one point Alfredo, our Charro model, tripped over something in the cracked earth. He swept the grass out of his way and bent down to investigate, with Dan and I hovering above him. That’s when I heard him exclaim what a big scorpion’s nest he’d kicked. There was a pause before all three of us looked down at my bare feet. My heart rate was racing as I walked back to the car to grab some shoes. Being born in the UK – a country without a single native poisonous animal – doesn’t really prepare you for the wider world!
This print is part of my Mexican Charro wall art series.

Over the years, many of the Charro models I work with have become good friends. We often create the concepts together, basing them on Mexican myths and fokloric tales.
I pay each model for their time on the photoshoot as well as a percentage of every sale.

Yes, I shoot with a high-end professional Canon 5D4 camera. My images can be printed much larger if needed with no significant loss of resolution.
I work with an amazing Fine Art Printer in the US. They use a process similar to the classic darkroom method called Chromogenic printing. This is my preferred printing method as it gives the images a richness and depth that suits my style of photography. All my work is printed on premium Fuji Lustre paper, or 100% cotton canvas, and is guaranteed to not fade for over 75 years. Please note that this listing is for the print only, it does not include the frame.
Many of my images are inspired by myths and folkloric stories from Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. From the Mexica myth of Popocatepetl & Iztaccihuatl to the Legend of the Charro Negro.

Yes, but I actually suggest you just purchase the print and frame it locally. Sending a framed print increased the chance of your order being damaged during delivery. I suggest you puerchase the print and get it framed locally.
A limited-edition print is a constrained run edition. This means that an edition limited to 10 copies will end its run after the 10th photo is sold. Limited editions are an investment and are popular with art collectors.
