There’s no substitute for a 1-on-1 learning experience. All my workshops are private. Together we’ll select models, locations and concepts that best fit your skill level and photographic interests.
I’m currently running private workshops with a range of models from various Mexican communities including: Azteca, Charro, Escaramuza, Folkloric and Huichol.

Suitable for all mobility levels.
JP and his crew were spectacular! They made one of my greatest wishes come true. If you want a truly unique experience, I highly recommend booking a private workshop.

Private workshops offer many advantages over group workshops.
You’re in control!
On a private workshop, you set the schedule. We’ll work together to create a private workshop where you shoot for as long – or as little – as you want. We can also spend working on your photoshoot planning, lighting proficiency or your post-production skills.
Visit normally out-of-reach photoshoot locations.
Some of the most breathtaking locations in the area can’t be reached on group tours because of time constraints. On a Private Workshop, we can explore a range of remote locations and choose the perfect one for your concept.
Select the models you want to work with.
Another advantage to booking a Private Workshop is that we get to match the models to your concept. You can also work with more than 1 model – something I rarely do in group workshops. I am currently working with Aztec, Charro, Escaramuza and Huichol models.
Take advantage of 1-on-1 tuition.
Private workshops can be used to really dial up the learning intensity. We can work together to identify what skills to cover. I’ll then challenge you to push yourself and improve as a result. A lot can be achieved in one day!
Don’t be limited by mobility issues.
If you have mobility issues, we can work together to create a program that will deliver the shots you need without pushing you physically. This could be a mix of indoor studio work and easy access locations. Either way, I’ll make sure you come away with amazing photos.
Develop your own photoshoot concept
Want to create something completely unique? For an additional cost, I’ll work with you to build a brand new photoshoot concept.

What equipment do you need to bring for this workshop?
You will need to bring the following:
1. A Canon, Nikon or Sony SLR/mirror-less camera. If you have any doubts about your camera, please contact me to discuss. I can rent out a full-frame Canon 5D IV if your camera has compatibility issues with the lighting we will be using.
2. This workshop contains a mix of up-close portraiture and environmental portraiture. As such, I suggest the following lenses (or a zoom lens that covers the focal lengths): 24mm, 35mm and 85mm. The wider the aperture on these lenses, the better. We can rent out lenses if required.
What level of photographer is this workshop targeted at?
This workshop is designed for anyone that wants to improve their photography while shooting the photographs of a lifetime.
While a basic understanding of photography and your equipment is assumed, the beauty of private tuition is that it is fully customizable. We can focus on whatever areas you feel your photography needs improving.
How many people will be at this workshop?
I run three types of workshops: group, private, and custom. This is a private workshop. This means you will not share the experience with strangers. You – any other friends you explicitly choose) will be the only guest(s) at the workshop, so you’ll have my undivided attention.
Can I bring a non-photographer to the workshop?
Absolutely, you’re welcome to bring a friend or partner. We just ask that they pay $25 to cover food, transport and other costs. Please contact us directly to discuss.
Many non-photographer spouses, partners and friends join us just to gain a greater appreciation for photography and be part of this unique cultural experience.
What happens if it rains on the day of my workshop?
It very rarely rains from November to June. But July to October has significant rain fall. If you decide to book in this period rain might affect your workshop.
JP Stones Photography will make every effort to stay on top of weather events.
If none of these can be arranged, JP Stones Photography is unable to give refunds.
I strongly suggest you keep the day after a workshop free (buffer day), that way it will be easier to reschedule.
What happens if I damage my equipment or hurt myself on a workshop?
JP Stones Photography does not accept liability for any loss of camera equipment, personal possessions, valuables, bodily injury, illness, accidents, injuries, carelessness, negligence, lack of fitness, punctuality or death during the workshops.
The workshops are often outdoors and as such require some traveling to areas where medical and toilet facilities are not readily accessible. All bookings are accepted on the explicit understanding that you understand these potential risks.
All clients are responsible for ensuring they have the correct insurances in place.
Who owns the copyright on photos taken at a JP Stones Photography workshop?
You own all photos you take with your camera. If you rented a camera from me, you also own the photos you take with that camera.
All models have signed a model release form. For details of this agreement please contact me.
Both me and my photography assistant will be taking photos and video during the workshop. This may include ‘behind the scenes’ content I can use to promote future workshops. We own the copyright for this content.
If you have any issues with any of this, please tell us before your book the workshop so we can try and work something out.
Payment
A 50% deposit is required to secure a booking. This deposit is used to cover initial expenses for the workshop and as such is non-refundable. Your booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been paid.
The remaining balance must then be paid 90 days before the workshop date.
Refund Policy for Private Workshops
If a conflict arises and you need to cancel your participation in a workshop, JP Stones Photography will try to extend every courtesy possible and grant you a refund. However, due to some non-recoverable costs incurred on our side, this may not always be possible. As a result, we have to implement a sliding refund scale based on the amount of time we are left with to attempt to fill a vacancy.
1. We provide a 1 day (24 hours) cooling off period on all bookings. If you cancel your booking during this period, you will receive a full refund on your payment (minus any fees).
2. We will provide a 100% refund of your total payment if you cancel more than 60 days before the booked date. We will provide a 50% refund of your total payment if you cancel more than 30 days before the booked date. No refund will be provided on cancelations less than 30 days before the booked date. If you do not turn up for the workshop, you will not get a refund or the opportunity to reschedule.
3. No refunds will be given for any accommodation, travel or any other costs incurred due to a cancellation.
